What Our Customers Are Saying

“I had been researching how to charge my Tesla on just my solar energy when I found Emporia had reasonably priced hardware with good reviews, so I made the purchase. I’m now charging from my panels during the day while working from home instead of buying expensive utility power at night. The utility recently made it more expensive to charge overnight so now I just won’t use any of their overpriced power.”

“I just got new Model Y and I tried install car charger at home. I have 200A service but since all my major appliances are electric some electrician quoted a panel upgrade to 400A which cost over $7k. Some others quoted with attached load management device which cost over $800 device only. After internet research I found the Emporia Pro will fit my needs and budget. Electrician installed and all works great.”

– JJ

“This is a terrific EV charger. It charges quickly and efficiently. My installers were able to get it installed easily. The app is also very easy to use. Also, the customer service folks are responsive and helpful. Really glad we chose Emporia to work with.”

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the electrical panel requirements for the Emporia Pro?

Most of the time, yes — and that’s what makes it different. The Emporia Pro Level 2 EV Charger with PowerSmart automatically adjusts its charge rate based on your home’s real-time energy use, so it works within your panel’s existing capacity instead of overwhelming it. For most homeowners, that means skipping the $3,000–$8,000 panel upgrade that other chargers require. PowerSmart runs on the bundled Emporia Vue 3 Energy Monitor, which installs inside your electrical panel and measures your home’s load every second.

The Emporia Pro comes bundled with the Vue 3 Energy Monitor, which mounts inside your electrical panel and tracks your home’s energy use in real time. When other appliances are running and pulling power, the Pro automatically dials back its charge rate to stay within your panel’s limits. When demand drops, it charges faster again. The adjustment happens on the device itself — not just through the cloud — so the response is fast enough to actually protect your electrical system. You get the fastest possible charge your panel can support at any given moment, without any manual adjustments.

Both chargers have industry-leading field reliability and everything you’d expect from a quality Level 2 home charger. The difference is PowerSmart. The Emporia Classic Smart Level 2 EV Charger is a great fit for homes where the electrical panel has room to spare — straightforward installation, no extra hardware needed. The Emporia Pro adds PowerSmart load management (via the bundled Vue 3 Energy Monitor), which lets it install on nearly any panel without an upgrade. If your panel has capacity, the Classic is all you need. If it doesn’t — or if you’re not sure — the Pro solves that problem.

Yes, on both. If you have solar panels, you can set the Emporia Pro to charge your EV using excess solar energy first, reducing what you pull from the grid. If you have a home battery, smart appliances, or Emporia Smart Plugs, the Vue 3 can coordinate across all of them — automating your energy use around your utility rate plan to cut costs further. It’s a connected system, not just a charger.

The Emporia app (available on iOS and Android) shows you charging status, session history, energy use, and scheduling — all in one place. The Pro connects to your home Wi-Fi, and the app works from anywhere. There’s no subscription required to use the smart features. If you’re adding the Vue 3, it brings your whole home’s energy picture into the same app: EV charging alongside circuits, appliances, and solar if you have it.

Hardwired, the Emporia Pro supports up to 48 amps (requires a 60A circuit). With a NEMA 14-50 outlet, it supports up to 40 amps (50A circuit). The 25-foot charging cable works with any EV — the Pro is available with either a J1772 or NACS (Tesla-style) connector. It’s NEMA 4 rated, so it’s safe for indoor or outdoor installation, and there’s a rear-entry hardwire option that keeps cables hidden.

The Emporia Pro comes with a 3-year warranty. If something comes up, you’ll reach a real support team based in Colorado — not an offshore call center or a chatbot.

Yes. Installing a Level 2 EV charger requires a licensed electrician to run a dedicated 240V circuit. Most installs take a few hours. One thing to keep in mind: with PowerSmart, your electrician is unlikely to need to upgrade your panel, which is where installation costs usually balloon. That’s a significant savings on labor and materials before you even factor in the charger itself.
