The estimate is based on the plan's published EFL rates as of June 4, 2026, and the usage numbers you entered. It's a reasonable approximation, not a guaranteed quote. The actual rate you lock in may differ slightly from today's published rate depending on when you enroll. Once enrolled, your energy rate is fixed for the 36-month contract term, so there are no surprises after that.

Your blended rate is your total electricity cost divided by your total kWh usage. It gives you one number that reflects what you actually pay per kilowatt-hour, averaged across all hours of the month, including any free or discounted periods.

To find it: take the total amount you paid on your last bill and divide it by the total kWh used. For example, if you paid $180 and used 1,100 kWh, your blended rate is about 16.4 cents per kWh. Your bill may also list it directly as "energy charge" or "average rate per kWh."

The Solar + EV Charging Savings Plan pays you 3.5 cents for every kWh you export to the grid. The tradeoff is that the energy rate on that plan is higher than the EV-only plan. Whether the buyback credits exceed the rate difference depends entirely on how much you export each month.

If your solar system exports a modest amount, the rate premium costs you more than the credits earn you. The EV-only plan wins. If you have a large system and export heavily, the credits flip the math in the Solar + EV plan's favor. Most free nights plans give you free electricity overnight for your whole home, but offset that by charging higher rates during the day. The Emporia EV Charging Savings Plan works differently. The flat $14.95 monthly fee covers your free charging windows. Your energy rate during all other hours is competitive and not inflated to pay for the free windows.

There's also a midday free window from 12pm to 4pm that most free nights plans don't offer. And because your Emporia charger handles the scheduling automatically, you don't have to remember to plug in at the right time.

You can charge anytime. The Emporia app schedules your EV charging into the free windows automatically, but manual override is always available. If you charge outside the free windows, that session is billed at the standard energy rate rather than free. Most people find the automated scheduling handles their routine without any manual adjustments.

Yes, both plans are 36-month contracts. There is a $395 early cancellation fee if you leave before the term ends. There is no fee to enroll, and no fee to switch if you move within Texas or upgrade to a new Emporia plan. Your energy rate is locked for the full term.
