Intelligent Load Sharing allows multiple Emporia EV chargers to safely and automatically share available power on existing wiring, eliminating expensive electrical upgrades. When one car charges alone, it gets full power, and when multiple plug in, the system automatically splits power among any EV that needs it.
No major electrical work needed: add more Emporia chargers as you need and let Intelligent Load Sharing handle the rest.
To get started with Intelligent Load Sharing, you’ll need the following:
Emporia App
Two or more Emporia EV chargers
Once you set up a Load Sharing network in the Emporia app, our platform does the heavy lifting:
The system dynamically shares available power among all chargers in the network.
When only one car is charging, it gets the maximum available power.
When more cars plug in, the system automatically and instantly balances power between them to make sure they all charge safely without overloading your electrical system.
When one car finishes, the remaining vehicle(s) automatically gets maximum power.
Avoid costly electrical panel and wiring upgrades or the cost of running a new circuit and conduit for each additional charger. Intelligent Load Sharing uses your existing electrical wiring more efficiently, providing a safe, powerful, and affordable way to expand your home charging capabilities.
You don’t need to check an app, set schedules, or manually swap cables. Our intelligent, cloud-based system handles everything automatically in the background after a one-time easy setup. Just plug in and let your chargers handle the rest.
With the Emporia App, setting up Intelligent Load Sharing is as simple as adding your devices into a load sharing network and entering your network’s maximum amps. Once you save your network, chargers automatically start sharing power.
Your Emporia chargers communicate with each other through the Emporia Cloud. This allows them to coordinate in real-time and automatically adjust power delivery based on which vehicles are actively charging in the network.
For safety, each charger will default to a minimum charge rate (6A) to ensure your vehicles still get a charge without risking an electrical overload. Once your internet connection is restored, the system will automatically resume its dynamic power allocation.
Yes! Intelligent Load Sharing and PowerSmart can work together for a comprehensive energy management solution.
Load Sharing manages power within a single circuit or sub-panel, while PowerSmart (which requires an Emporia Vue monitor and a PowerSmart-enabled charger) manages your entire home’s energy consumption. You can use either feature alone or both together for maximum protection and efficiency.
You can connect as many Emporia chargers in a Load Sharing Network as your circuit or electrical panel capacity allows – aka your “Network Max Amps” which is set in the Emporia App. Network Max Amps is equal to 6A (our minimum amps per charger) times the number of chargers. For example:
2 chargers: Minimum 12A required (6A × 2)
3 chargers: Minimum 18A required (6A × 3)
4 chargers: Minimum 24A required (6A × 4)
Yes – Intelligent Load Sharing is a perfect way to offer fair and safe charging at a business, commercial, or multifamily property. This feature provides balanced, professional-grade multi-car charging without spending thousands extra on electrical and installation work.
